Imagine hiking through an old forest on a warm fall day. Can you see the ocean of trees rising to the sky, spreading their leaves to soak in the sun? Now look down. Try as they might the trees cannot absorb all of the light; some of the rays get through to splash their golden light across the ground.
I'm from Oregon so the forest feels like home to me. It is soothing, inspiring, and peaceful - all feelings I associate with knitting, too. With this pattern, I had the chance to combine my love and memories of my home state with yarn from the same place. I know that is quite a bit of imagery to cram into a sock, but try to stick with me. The notches in the hem are the ridges of the bark, the cuff is the overlapping branches and leaves of the canopy, the body is all the circles of light speckling the ground, and the toe the point of the leaf. Whether you can see the forest or not, I hope these socks bring you some of the same joy and comfort.
